Curriculum
The SPSP curriculum model incorporates 6 fourteen-week trimesters, spread over two years and is designed around three core concepts, industry relevance, skills integration and learner responsibility, thus ensuring that students succeed in their chosen program and go on to be successful and valued employees in the future.
Industry Relevance
The curriculum enables graduates to exit the program directly into a range of occupations within six areas of the Petroleum Services Industry (Mechanical, Electrical, Operations, Welding, Pipefitting and Drilling). The curriculum has been designed to provide flexible, adaptable graduates with a strong foundation in core skills and demonstrated competence in specialist areas that support the Petroleum Services Industry. SPSP graduates will be well-placed to continue their learning and development once in full-time employment.
Skills Integration
Co-delivery of theoretical and practical subjects ensures that trainees understand the principles that support practice and can apply the skills and knowledge they are learning. This will be achieved through a combination of international generic qualifications and tailor-made units.
Learner Responsibility
SPSP’s curriculum and delivery model incorporate a learner-centered approach. This includes the use of a Student Charter and Learner Agreements to document students’ responsibilities to the program and SPSP and the requirement that students take personal responsibility for their Learner Portfolio building. By learning to take responsibility for their success, graduates of SPSP will develop a good work ethic and the entry-level skills necessary for them to continue developing in the industry after graduation.
